Deodorant Tip

07 February 2014

Reading up on how many nasty chemicals there are in most high street deodorant brands, I started looking for alternatives. I have tried several alternative more natural deodorants - but most of them didn't seem to do much. Then I found a recipe for coconut oil combined with baking soda, and that works like a charm!

Make Your Own Coconut Oil Deodorant

  • 6 tbsp Lucy Bee coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup corn starch (to absorb moisture) (optional)
  • essential oils for a nice smell (optional)

  1. Mix the baking soda and corn starch.
  2. Add the coconut oil (solid state) and mix all the ingredients with a spoon. Stop when the mixture has a firm - but pliable - texture. If you want to, you can now add the essential oils.
  3. Scoop the mix in a glass jar Apply the mixture with your fingers, and don't worry about oil stains - it absorbs very quickly.

If you don't want to make a big batch it also works when you just warm some coconut oil in your palm and sprinkle a bit of baking soda on it and then apply it directly :) No more irritated skin, but lovely soft skin instead - and of course, most important of all: no smell! You can also add some essential oil to it for additional benefits - but it is not necessary.
