Coconut Oil & The Gluten Free Diet

'...our coconut oil is raw, organic and about as natural as you can possibly get, it’s completely free from gluten.'

Take a stroll through supermarkets, and you’ll see shelves laden with gluten-free cakes, cookies, baking mixes, flours, breads and even crackers. You name it, and there’s probably a gluten-free version of it.

You see, more people than ever before are being diagnosed with Coeliac disease (rates have rocketed, quadrupling in the last 20 years) and gluten intolerances, meaning they have to lead gluten-free lives for health reasons. Eating gluten (a protein found in many products containing wheat, rye and barley, amongst others) when you’re intolerant or allergic can lead to severe health problems, including stomach and digestive problems and even muscle spasms.

Foods You Can Eat:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Fresh meats and fish
  • Beans and lentils
  • Eggs and most dairy products
  • Whole grains such as buckwheat, quinoa, brown rice, millet

Foods to Avoid:

  • Any products containing wheat, rye, or barley
  • Many shop-bought oats
  • Pasta, breads, biscuits and cakes (unless stated gluten free)
  • Many processed and pre-packaged foods, including salad dressings, soups, certain meats, soy sauce
  • Beer
  • Certain additives, such as malt flavouring and modified food starch
